Sadly alarming levels of lead have been found in old porcelain bathtubs. The EPA estimates that more than 57 million homes in the U.S. have dangerous levels of lead. Additionally, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) says that almost half a million of the children that are living in the USA have levels of lead in their blood that are so high that they can cause irreversible damage to their health.
According to the Mayo Clinic some symptoms of lead poisoning in children are:
- Irritability
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Sluggishness and fatigue
- Abdominal pain
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Learning difficulties
Porcelain bathtubs are often overlooked as a possible cause of lead poisoning. Should your bathtub become chipped or cracked there is a high likelihood that it is contaminating the bathwater which could especially be problematic if you have children who may accidently swallow bathwater while bathing or playing.
Don’t be a victim of lead poisoning! It is completely preventable. You may think that you have to run out and buy a brand new bathtub to solve this precarious problem. Do not worry! Bath Fitter has certified lead trained staff that knows what to look for and how to remove it without buying a whole new tub. We are certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency in our Portland office. Let us help you live healthy and give you peace of mind.
